Once a customer has a rooftop tent, the question of where to wash becomes urgent. Campsite facilities are inconsistent, wild camping offers nothing at all, and managing hygiene out of a vehicle without a dedicated space is awkward for everyone involved. A shower tent solves a problem that every overland customer eventually encounters, which is why it sells consistently alongside rooftop tents.

Why an aluminium shell rather than a fabric enclosure
Most shower tents on the market are fabric pop-up enclosures that fold into a bag. They are light and cheap, and they have three persistent problems: they are difficult to dry before packing, they take up interior space, and they degrade quickly when packed wet repeatedly.
An aluminium shell shower tent addresses all three:
- Dries in place. The fabric hangs inside a rigid shell and air moves through it. A wet tent can be closed and dried later rather than being stuffed into a bag damp.
- Mounts to the vehicle. It takes no interior cargo space, which matters enormously on a touring vehicle where volume is contested between passengers, water, fuel and gear.
- Protects the fabric. Folded fabric inside a rigid housing is not exposed to UV or to abrasion in transit, so the enclosure lasts considerably longer.
- Sets up instantly. Release the latches and the shell opens. No poles, no threading, no wrestling with a pop-up mechanism in wind.
Construction and specification
- Shell. Aluminium alloy extrusion with a powder coated finish, available in matte black, sand, dark grey and white.
- Enclosure fabric. Coated waterproof fabric with sealed seams and a floor tub.
- Deployment. Gas strut assisted opening with a latch that can be operated with one hand.
- Mounting. Brackets designed to fit common roof racks, with load spreading across the mounting face.
- Interior. Space for a portable shower head, hanging point for a solar shower bag, ventilation to manage condensation.
- Optional. Integrated LED lighting, internal storage pocket, floor drain.
Practical considerations that matter to the end user
- Water management. Where does the waste water go? A floor with a drain point and a short hose keeps the campsite clean and avoids a puddle inside.
- Ventilation. A shower produces a great deal of moisture. Without ventilation the interior becomes a sauna and the fabric stays damp. Vents need to be positioned so they admit air without admitting rain or exposing the occupant.
- Floor rigidity. Standing on soft fabric over uneven ground is uncomfortable. A semi-rigid or reinforced floor panel makes the product genuinely usable.
- Changing space. Many customers use the enclosure as a changing room rather than for showering. A hanging point and a small shelf matter more in that case than a large footprint.
- Height. The interior height has to accommodate the tallest likely user, and the mounting position determines how that interacts with the ladder and the rooftop tent.
Where it fits in a vehicle build
The shower tent is usually the third or fourth accessory a customer adds, after the tent, the awning and the water tank. That ordering matters commercially: it is a natural attachment sale for a brand that already sells a rooftop tent and a pressurized water tank, and mounting it on the opposite side from the awning gives a vehicle a balanced, purposeful appearance.
Customization and OEM
- Shell colour, from the standard range or a custom batch.
- Fabric colour and specification.
- Logo on the shell, applied as a plate or laser etched.
- Bracket design for a specific rack or vehicle.
- Interior configuration: hanging points, shelf, drain arrangement.
- Packaging for retail or for container efficiency.
OEM and ODM development is available for brands and retailers, including development from a client drawing and market positioning.
Samples, MOQ and lead time
Samples are available and standard configurations can be sampled from one unit. Custom colours and structural changes carry a minimum batch, confirmed in advance. Lead time depends on specification and on season.
A shower tent is a small product that has an outsized effect on how a customer rates a vehicle build, because it is used every day of a trip. If you are developing one, send us the mounting position, the vehicle type and the market, and we will propose the specification.
